Sing along
This is a jeopardy game I made using PowerPoint. It's a fun game to test student's vocabulary, grammar, and cultural knowledge. It can also be customized as a fun chapter review before an exam. It can be played individualy or in groups depending on the size of the classroom. Students love it!
I always use a song that relates to the topic we are learning (i.e.: present tense verbs, furniture, food, imperfect tense, etc...). I give my students the lyrics, ask them to highlight the words related to the topic we're are studying. We listened to the song online (youtube or pandora) and sing along. We talk about the song's message and how it relates to the target culture. Once they are familiar and comfortable with the music and lyrics we play karaoke!
There's always a chapter in every single language book that talks about food. Once we finish that chapter we create a cooking show. First we watch a cooking show from the target language. The students then are divided into four groups and they have to come up with a four course meal. I'm fortunate to have a "students kitchen" in the school where I work so the students can make their dishes and I record the "show". Look at lesson plan for ideas on how to customize this lesson.
At the end of the semester my students have to prepare a 10 minute presentation using PowerPoint, speaking in the target language. They are free to talk about anything they want as long as they use the content we've learned during the semester (present/past/future tenses, food, clothes, hobbies, family, etc..). Some students choose to do an autobiography, others choose to talk about a trip, others a topic about the target culture. Since they are MBA graduates they can also present a product, a marketing proposal, or a business topic related to the target culture. The presentation can be in PowerPoint format, video, music, brochure, etc...
